Living Room Designed to Highlight Heirloom Art
The owners of this beautifully detailed 1922 home had specific goals to achieve with their dark and inefficient living room: It needed to be brighter and more welcoming, offer more seating, dramatically display their heirloom rug and valuable collection of art and books, as well as amplify the room’s beautiful details including the stained glass window, moldings, fireplace and hardwood floors.
The walls were painted white to highlight the colors of the art, the rug and the stained glass window. Lighting was designed to highlight art and architecture and accommodate reading. Built in bookcases were custom designed specifically to the size and number of books, and topped with glass for the dramatic display of sculptures and other art pieces.
The original furniture design was recreated with custom-made sofas and chairs that were both comfortable and stylish and maximized the seating required. The neutral colors were chosen so that the vibrant rug would maintain its importance in the room. Interest was added through fabric texture and furniture details. The glass tables were also custom made.
